Water shortages declared a ‘Nationally Significant Incident’
On 11th August 2025 the Environment Agency’s Director of Water and NDG chair, Helen Wakeham declared “The current situation is nationally significant, and we are calling on everyone to play their part and help reduce the pressure on our water environment”.
The Canal and River Trust have already been restricting lock access on a number of canals and from 26th August 2025 will be closing the locks at Braunston, Hillmorton and Calcutt, in turn drastically reducing LNBP boating options from Braunston. Boating in general low water levels also creates additional handling and safety risks.
LNBP are in contact with Canal and River Trust who will provide regular updates, our working partners and also our customer client groups regarding this ongoing and ever-changing situation.
Further updates are to follow in due course.
