If you are out and about on the water with LNBP in the coming months, why not share your experiences with us on Instagram?

In addition to our social media channels of Facebook and Twitter, we have a presence on the popular media of ‘Insta’ and invite you to send us your pics and videos of your travels, either on the water or on the towpath.

Connect with us on Instagram HERE with the hashtags #lnbpbraunston #lnbp #communityboating

Although our boats have not been able to welcome groups yet this year and we have only been able to start accommodating self-steer bookings in the last few weeks, some of our Executive members have been out and about on the towpaths of some of our more popular routes.

The first gallery of pics was provided to us by our Bookings Officer, Nigel Smith, and captures an early morning scene on Locks 53, 54 and 55 of the Stratford Canal in Warwickshire.

It promises to be a busy week (and weekend) ahead for us as we embark on our Braunston to Birmingham and Back promotional trip

After arriving on Tuesday to stock up and board all the essentials for the next seven days or so ahead, here’s a brief plan of where we will be and passing each day.

Wednesday 4th October – Off and Cruising

A nice early start planned with an anticipated depart from Braunston at 7.45am, with our route taking us along the Grand Union to the Napton turn, and then past Stockton and Long Itchington.

We are aiming for Leamington Spa or as far as The Cape of Good Hope Pub, Warwick, with a stop required in Leamington for provisions.

Thursday 5th October – Halfway there

Another busy day ahead and so an early start to depart our overnight mooring, climb ‘the Stairway to Heaven’ of Hatton Locks, continue on until Kingswood Junction and turn left onto the North Stratford Canal and climb the top half of the Lapworth flight.

Tonight, we are aiming to moor between The Wharf pub (bridge 25) and The Drawbridge pub (bridge 8), which with a five mile ‘window’ should provide us with chance to moor easily enough (famous last words!).

Friday 6th October – Into Birmingham

Nice early start (we’re used to them) to depart overnight mooring and aim for Bridge 3 to pick up school children for photo shoot, before travelling onto the Worcester and Birmingham Canal – our next aim: Birmingham City Centre. We have no guaranteed mooring but are aiming to slot ourselves in between The Mailbox and The National SEAL LIFE Centre.

Once there, our boat – Guinevere – will be open to the public from 1.00 to 6.00pm. You won’t be able to miss us. Look out for the flags, banners and pop-up displays!

Saturday 7th October – Open for Visitors: come and see us

Guinevere will be open to the public from 9.00am to 6.00pm for visitors to come aboard and find out more about us and what we do. We look forward to seeing and welcoming you.

On the boat to show you around and answer any questions will be John, Linda, Nigel, Boz & Andrea (and possibly Mike)

Sunday 8th October – Open for Visitors: the kettle will be on

Guinevere will once again be open to the public from 9.00am to 6.00pm for visitors, with John, Linda, Peter, Mike, and Nigel manning the boat today and available to guide you around, tell you more about we do and with whom.

If you cannot make it in Saturday, please do call in and visit and meet us on Sunday

Monday 9th October – Heading home!

After what we hope will be a busy weekend, we depart Birmingham early morning (7.45am) for the return run back to base at Braunston, arriving on Wednesday.

You can chart our route from Braunston to Birmingham and back on the Grand Union Canal, on the interactive map on the Canal and Rivers Trust website here

And don’t forget to follow us on Facebook here and Twitter here for updates on our progress and pictures from our trip during the coming week.

From 29th June to 8th July, LNBP at Braunston is involved with what is undoubtedly its biggest project undertaken to date.
Stratford-to-Stratford is a exciting new youth arts project coordinated by the Canal and River Trust.
They are taking a group of 30 budding young thespians from The Chobham Academy based in Stratford, East London, to perform at the Stratford Upon Avon Festival over the weekend of 3rd-5th July 2015.
They will be going from Stratford east London to Stratford upon Avon in Warwickshire by narrowboat, and along the way they will learn all about the wonders of the canals together with the wonders of Shakespeare.

Route of the Stratford-to-Stratford project #BardonBoats

Once they arrive they will perform ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at the Dell and as part of the Stratford River Festival.
The Canal and River Trust are coordinating the whole trip for the group and LNBP have been asked to provide boats and crews to transport the group from Hatton to Stratford Upon Avon.
CRT have hired both Lancelot and Guinevere, and an additional 4 boats from Union Canal Carriers at Braunston. Lancelot and Guinevere + 2 UCCL boats will accommodate the group. A 5th boat will accommodate the camera crew and their equipment, whilst the 6th boat will be crew accommodation.
The chronology of the trip for LNBP at Braunston is as follows:-
Stage 1:
LNBP to crew a total of six boats from Braunston setting out on Sunday 28th June to arrive on the Hatton flight by the evening of Tuesday 30th when the theatre group and their camera crew will board.
Stage 2:
Departing Hatton on the morning of Wednesday 1st July the six boats will transport the whole group to Stratford Upon Avon, arriving on the evening of Thursday 2nd July, when the boats will moor on the river Avon at Stratford.
Stage 3:
The boats will remain moored at Stratford to provide dormitory accommodation for the group until Sunday 5th July.
During this time, LNBP at Braunston will have an exhibition stand at the Stratford River Festival
Stage 4:
The group will vacate the boats at 9.00am on the Sunday the 5th. At a time to be agreed the flotilla will depart Stratford on Sunday 5th, returning to Braunston on the morning of Wednesday 8th July.

It is a big undertaking for us but one we are ready for and privileged to be involved with.
Look out for updates on our Facebook Page and on Twitter (@LNBP_Braunston)
