A band of hearty dedicated souls descended on Bottom Lock at Braunston to take Lancelot and Gunevere out of their winter hibernation, all in preparation for the arrival of our first communty group client guests in the coming week.

As you can see from the picture gallery below, a lot went on and got completed over the course of the weekend with both boats being thoroughly cleaned inside and out, and a lot of jobs, tasks and checks all undertaken and completed by the very hard working team.

LNBP Chairperson John Tobin reported it was a very good productive (if at times very cold) Dewinterising weekend and it was wonderful to see so many faces come along and get involved; many of whom stayed for the duration of the weekend having arrived on Friday and did not depart until Monday!

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and participated our Dewinterising Weekend. Everyone’s contributions are gratefully appreciated and valued; the upshot being that we are now all set for the arrival of our first client guests and the start of our 2025 season this weekend.

• Our 2025 season is set to get underway shortly and it is a busy one in prospect as we look forward to welcoming community client groups old and new aboard Lancelot and Guinevere to enjoy weekend or weekday residential holidays and short breaks.

If you think you have left it too late to book your group for the coming year, do not despair.  We still have some availability between March and October, even if some of it is limited over some key periods and weekends.

With their two narrowboats based at Bottom Lock in Braunston, we are a non-proft charity who are reliant on the efforts of volunteers who give their time to ensure the smooth running of the organisation and the canal boat experiences we provide.

We are always keen to welcome new volunteers to our organisation with a variety of roles available including boat maintenance, skippers for the boats, fundraising, marketing, ‘meet and greet’ and administration.

Experience is not necessary (but always useful) as training can be given. So if you are 16 years old and over, why not consider getting involved?

We will be canalside at Bottom Lock with our distinctive green narrowboats Lancelot and Guinevere on Friday 7th, Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th February undertaking a variety of tasks to ensure  L & G are clean, fresh and ship-shape for the months to come.  So why not pop by and say hello, meet some of the team and come and see our boats, and find out more about us and how you can get involved. Our Dewinterising Weekend is where many of our members converge to our mooring at Bottom Lock in Braunston, Northamptonshire to bring Lancelot and Guinevere out of hibernation from the winter to get them ready for the new boating season ahead.

Whether it was on deck (or on the roof) or down in the gallery, our team were hard at work with cleaning inside and outside and making sure L and G were looking in prime condition and in good working order for what promises to be another busy season in prospect.

As well as making them look spick and span from the rigours of a cold few months, the weekend also involved making sure L and G were in good mechanical and running order and ensuring both boats had all the necessary equipment clean and in place to ensure our upcoming client group guests have everything they need for their trips.

In addition to the various jobs and tasks in hand, the weekend is also a good social occasion with members coming from various parts of the country both locally and from further afield. And after the events of recent years where face-to-face gatherings have been at a premium due to Covid, it was great to a few people for once in real life and not virtually on a Zoom chat camera as has been the case.
