....Where you go..and what you do...depends on your group.....and the time of year....Trying to do too much can make a trip less enjoyable.
As a rule of thumb...think of cruising for no more than around 6 to 8 hours each day.
Try to think in terms of lock/miles per hour.
The boats will do 4 miles per hour and , on average , it will take the same amount of time to go through a lock as it does to travel one mile.
Bear in mind the following:-
- British Waterways allows no cruising during the hours of darkness.
- There are far fewer hours of daylight in the winter months.
- Your crew will want to get off the boat and explore the surroundings.
- At certain times...the canals are much busier.....and progress may be slowed.
Please look at the Routemap, and the summaries of suggested routes, and maybe do some research of your own...........but be sure to discuss your plans with your skipper.....who will be only too pleased to help make your trip enjoyable and successful.
